Really enjoyed reading this, and looking forward to the next installments! This inspired me to finally tag the rings in my Indyx, which I started before but didn’t complete. The colors on the Tibi wheel is somewhat limited, so it’s not entirely clear what goes where. Any thoughts on which rings denim and metallics go in?
Lots of thoughts about denim and metallic. I think there is no one answer to this. I’d take a specific denim, and ask myself: how does it make me feel?
For example, those metallic gold flats I wear a lot, I feel I can treat them as a neutral, or as a bright pop, depending on my mood and styling. For Indyx, I’d have a tag #metallic I guess.
For denim, I’d ask: do I feel polished? Casual? Classic? Grounded? Soft? Sharp? And find the corresponding ring. For Indyx, I’d just have a #denim tag. In general, I wear denim when I need some weight and texture (vs. a poplin cotton trousers). I have a washed black denim jeans for example that reads soft, undone, relaxed, making a black nappa leather flat read sharp and polished. So it could be a ring 3?
The color wheel is not perfect but it has been a great tool for me to add dimensions to my daily style. I’m not into sharp contrast so much, but I love a soft yet powerful vibe!
Thanks, this makes a lot of sense. I started to realize that three of the four rings pretty much align with my three style words, so where I wasn’t sure, I aligned it with the ring that matched the word that made the most sense.
Oh wow Ardas! This turned out to be so good! There is so much rich information here. I'm seriously so thankful that you asked me to be a part of this. Truly honored! Such a great one. I'm gonna save this to read over and over again. Thank you!
I remember seeing the Tibi colour wheel for the first time and feeling as though something clicked for me. I've always been drawn to ring 3 colours, and would feel way too "classic" in outfits with only ring 2 colours - but never had the words to describe why. Loved hearing the different perspectives from these ladies!
Oh yes I can see many pops of Ring 3 in your latest Fall Shopping post!! It’s soooo helpful to find our own way to put words on it, because it makes us really rooted in the Why we choose to wear this, and this creates a quiet confidence.
I’m curious how we’re each drawn to more/less ring 3 and to different colours within it, like Anna with the brownish-reds. I’m still figuring out what works best for me, plenty of visual delights to gobble up here - thanks for sharing
I wonder which tones do you feel more excited about and naturally attracted to? What do you already have in your wardrobe?
I tend to have the burgund-ish, faded rasperry (?) and the sage (light and dark, maybe olive leaf green?) the most. The ‘trying to name that tone’ game is a fun one!
That’s for replying! I’ve always been drawn to the blu-ish greys/grey-ish blues, and then the green-ish/greys, and lastly maroon-ish/cinnamon (but not near my face!). And I’d never really done any brighter ring three until pretty recently, but I’ve got so much joy out of pale-ish green, and the Tibi celery got me! In a sea of neutrals and heaps of navy, these ish colours do so much heavy lifting—as your piece captures so well.
I came back to this newsletter because I wanted to ask: where do you get your Tibi knowledge? I am overwhelmed by the style classes on YouTube. Or do you get it from the Creative Pragmatist book? Would love to know!
You're always invited to come back to letters and ask more questions! It actually helps me a lot to express myself better.
I get you, it can feel overwhelming because it's its own language. That's why I was saying Asta is fluent in Tibish (https://fithappens.substack.com/)
Anna Baldwin, whom I first found on Tiktok, did a great job at visually demonstrating some core principles, such as proportions (big, slim, skin), the color wheel, and the infamous 'one, ton or none': https://www.tiktok.com/@5aldwinanna
I started with the style classes, the weekly live, at first, and then some rewatch on Youtube. Because Tibi (the team) did a great job at creating a jargon, their own language, once you hear about it a few times it gets easier!
I do have the Tibi book, I bought it in December, and I have been exploring it cover to cover, but also just revisiting some pages. I recommend!
And of course, with this publication, I hope to bring my own twist explaining how I apply the principles... with actionable tips. It's just the beginning!
Let me know which principles you'd like to learn more about?
Thank you so much for this long and detailed response. I will definitely dive into some of the resources you shared. I am interested in their computer theory and general advice ion personal style. I am sure there’s some great advice they share that is worth knowing!
This has been such an educational post for me, thank you! Found via the inclusion of Anna Newton, think this has really helped unlock my understanding of those rings… thank you.
I’m so glad it helps. I always make a point to explain the why behind styling. Something we just need a new language. Please do let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, I know that in Part Two you’ll find more guidance!
This was a feast for the eyes!! Loved & saved.
Awww thank you for reading, sharing and commenting. So appreciate you.
Thank you for this post. I’m wondering if you can tell us the brand of your jacket and skirt in the last photo?
Of course! Let me know if this is what you’re asking.. not sure!
The mini skirt is old Arket. The long ecru skirt is old Muji. The suede jacket is new Arket ( https://go.shopmy.us/p-23586249)
Thank you!
A masterclass!! I will definitely be saving and coming back to this post often ❤️
Thank you for reading, saving and commenting. And let me know if anything is left unclear.
Love these tones and this post! Saved the photo and can’t wait for part 2 🙌🏻
Yes!! I’m also excited for Part Two. It’s a big topic with the potential to add more vocabulary to our style language!

Agree 100%!
Loved how you broke this down, Ardas! And how I really didn't think I had that much Ring 3 in my wardrobe - you opened my eyes!
So curious to follow your journey into the Ring 3 tones! And of course, I love every look I put on that collage!!
I’m all about the muted neutrals and am working on an edit myself for this weekend :)
I’m curious how we’re each drawn to more/less ring 3 and to different colours within it, like Anna with the brownish-reds. I’m still figuring out what works best for me, plenty of visual delights to gobble up here - thanks for sharing

Thank you for the link to the Wada Sanzo website! I hadn’t seen that before, but what a great resource.
Yes it’s bookmarked on my Home Screen on my phone, so so good! Just a pure delight for the eye and I love the color pairing

love this! really enjoying learning everything about colour !!
Thank you for reading!! Part two is coming soon!!
Love this article! I’ve needed to work on my ring 3 pieces for awhile and now I feel inspired.
This is a game changer! Let me know if you need any inspiration. More ideas coming in Part Two!!
look forward to it!
So useful especially because I have a cobalt blue top that I thought I'd wear all and time and have been having some trouble with making it work.
Oh thank you for reading and for this note on cobalt blue, keeping this in mind for part two!!
I’ve been erring on wearing it with beige because it feels too “preppy” — the context is that it’s a cobalt blue polo-neck sweatshirt!
